...to everyone who voted for Neal on November 3rd. Hopefully his dreams for the district will become a reality. Please look for Neal's letter to local newspaper editors on November 10th.
Neal Millard is the candidate who will make a significant difference on the La Cañada Unified School Board -- now, when it’s needed most.
Neal is honored to be endorsed by the La Cañada Teachers Association (LCTA).
A 25-year resident of La Cañada, Neal has the vision and experience our district requires as it juggles an ongoing financial crisis with the high educational standards our community expects for its children. He believes there are opportunities to improve our top-performing schools, even in the face of budgetary restrictions. In fact, now is the time to embrace creative strategies for funding as well as program improvements. And Neal knows how.
As a practicing attorney, Neal has extensive professional experience in school finance, including wide-ranging legal work with private and charter schools. He represents a number of successful charter schools and serves on the board of one of the best-performing charters in the Los Angeles area. Thanks to his hands-on, in-depth knowledge, he will lead our board in adopting the most desirable qualities from the charter school system and apply them to our district as it exists.
Neal’s educational involvement doesn’t begin and end with his legal work. He served as a director of the LCF Educational Foundation from 2003 to 2006. He has taught at the grammar school level and at the graduate level too, currently serving as an Adjunct Professor of Law at USC Law Center. His son graduated from La Cañada High School in 2003, and his daughter is a student at the all-girls Westridge School. It’s an incredible composite of educational perspectives, and LCUSD will benefit from them all. With Neal on the School Board, we will take the best practices from public, private and charter schools and bring them to La Cañada -- without a tuition bill.
Among Neal’s proposed plans of action:
- Treat teachers more professionally and collaboratively, including finding ways to reward those teachers exhibiting exceptional teaching abilities
- Support the use of annual surveys and data sharing for students, parents and teachers to review opportunities for improvement and to acknowledge the excellent work our staff is doing day to day
- Expand the use of test data to evaluate and improve the educational programs
That’s why he’ll heighten the creativity, accountability, relationships, experience and success of LCUSD. We need that energy and vision, now more than ever.
Vote for Neal Millard for School Board on Nov. 3rd!
